Las Aguilas del America nearly stole a win from Pachuca, but a goal in the 87th minute from Franco Jara settled the match at three goals each on Saturday.
Prior to Jara saving a point for the Tuzos, Club America needed a pair of goals from Silvio Romero to undo a 2-0 deficit.
Los Tuzos took little time to find their stride with two goals landing before the match hit the 15-minute mark. Edson Alvarez handed Pachuca a 1-0 lead eight minutes in as he tried to dig a shot out from the near post but instead drove the ball into his own goal.
Jara then scored his first goal of the match from outside the box off a pass from Hirving Lozano for Pachuca to gain comfort early on.
Before the break at the half, Carlos Darwin Quintero broke on a run along with Silvio Romero and landed a precise pass to the left for him to shoot past Oscar Perez.
Following a pair of close calls to towards Pachuca’s net, Romero finally tied the game with his second score of the game in the 71st minute.
Only three minutes after Romero’s goal, Michael Arroyo successfully placed a free kick down the middle of Pachuca’s goal.
Pachuca, however, avoided suffering its first home loss of 2016 as Paolo Goltz committed a foul in the box to allow Pachuca a penalty shot. Jara took advantage of America’s gift and converted the penalty for the 3-3 draw.
The stalemate finishes Las Aguilas’ season with 28 points, while Pachuca settles for a second place finish with 31 for the season.
