With a little more than a month left for Mexico’s trip to Columbus, Ohio, El Tri travel to Nashville, Tennessee to take on the New Zealand national team.
In the absence of regulars like Jesus “Tecatito” Corona, Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez, and Andres Guardado, individuals like Giovani dos Santos, Marco Fabian, and Alan Pulido make their return to the national team frame after lengthy international absences.
Mexico coach Juan Carlos Osorio has not been spared any blame for his team selection, but the game presents a genuine opportunity for several players to win a spot in next month’s World Cup qualifiers.
Osorio, of course, could still use a big victory, and given that El Tri trashed New Zealand twice under Miguel Herrera to qualify to the 2014 World Cup, the bar has been set high for the Colombian manager.
But New Zealand will by no means be an easy team this time around. Like Mexico, the All Whites are unbeaten in World Cup qualifying and this game will serve as preparation for the next round of Oceania World Cup qalifying.
