Chivas will look to carry their midweek momentum to the Apertura when they host Cruz Azul at the Estadio Chivas on Saturday.

Matias Almeyda’s side arrive to this game on a high after beating rivals Club America in the semifinals of the Copa MX. A victory on penalties was enough to take the Rebaño Sagrado through to the final, where they will take on Queretaro for a chance at wining their second Copa MX in the past three editions.

In the league, however, things are a little different. Chivas are currently fifth in the league table, and a defeat at home might compromise their chances at making the Liguilla.

Against Cruz Azul, there is good news and bad news. The good news is Cruz Azul have had another miserable season, and they arrive on the back of a 2-1 defeat to Puebla that cost coach Tomas Boy his job. The bad news, though, is Chivas have won just once in their last eight meetings at home against La Maquina.

For Chivas, at least, it is vital they continue to earn points from now until the end of the season. Otherwise, they will put their playoff place in jeopardy. All the momentum is with Chivas but all the history is with Cruz Azul.
