On the back of a 2-1 win over New Zealand, the Mexico national team travel to Bridgeview, Illinois to take on Panama in their final warm-up game ahead of next month’s World Cup qualifiers.
In a little more than a month’s time, both Mexico and Panama will be meeting at the Rommel Fernández in their second game of World Cup qualifying. With a bigger game looming, this friendly doesn’t exactly put the teams in the best of positions, and both coaches will likely not want to reveal too much ahead of next month’s clash.
Still, for several players in El Tri, this game carries a fairly large importance if they want to be part of Mexico’s squad for next month’s World Cup qualifiers. Among those is Giovani dos Santos, who scored a goal and looked bright against New Zealand.
But it is not just players who have something to prove. Mexico coach Juan Carlos Osorio could do with another win. His status still holds the most talk across Mexico, and a negative result here would mean added pressure he doesn’t need.
