Monterrey vs. Club America: Highlights

Ricardo La Volpe’s first away game in charge of Club America ended in a 1-1 draw with Monterrey at the Estadio BBVA Bancomer.

Las Aguilas, who saw their first two matches under La Volpe result in wins, took an early lead on 15 minutes when former Chiapas striker Silvio Romero latched on to an Oribe Peralta through ball to fire past Jonathan Orozco.

But Rayados equalized minutes later. Referee Paul Delgadillo was quick to call a penalty from a Rubens Sambueza tackle on Dorlan Pabon. The same Pabon stepped up and converted to level things at 1-1.

The rest of the first half was no short of emotions as both teams went in search of the go-ahead goal.

In the second half, however, the game failed to pick up the same intensity. A long-range shot from Dorlan Pabon in the 58th minute forced Moises Munoz to a good save.

Los Rayados then had two promising shots, but Carlos Sanchez sent his shot high over the post and the right post denied Pabon’s bid at a second goal.

Las Aguilas had the last meaningful chance when Michael Arroyo skipped his way into the area before lashing his shot into the Monterrey defense.

At the end. the draw brought America to 19 points for the season, and kept America unbeaten under Ricardo La Volpe. Next, Las Aguilas will resume play after the international break by hosting Xolos de TIjuana at the Estadio Azteca. Meanwhile, Monterrey will visit Chiapas at the Estadio Victor Manuel Reyna.
