Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez scored his fifth goal in three games as he helped Bayer Leverkusen clinch a 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund at the BayArena on Saturday night.
Admir Mehmedi scored the breakthrough with only ten minutes on the clock to give Bayer Leverkusen an early lead.
But It wasn’t until late in the second half that Chicharito made his mark for the Werkself. The 28-year-old Mexican striker turned up in the right place to sweep in a Hakan Calhanoglu fast break and earn Bayer Leverkusen all three points. The goal was Chicharito’s fifth in five Bundesliga appearances this season.
The result keeps Bayer Leverkusen unbeaten in their last four games across all competitions and moves them to seventh in the league table.
Though Mexico will play two friendlies during the upcoming international break, Chicharito, along with several other European-based players, was not considered by Mexico coach Juan Carlos Osorio for these games.
Bayer Leverkusen will next take the field in two weeks against struggling Werder Bremen.
