FC Dallas goalkeeper Jesse Gonzalez has pulled a U-turn and will not accept an invitation from Jurgen Klinsmann to join the USMNT's January training camp.
Gonzalez, 20, had a breakout season in 2015 and was set to accept Klinsmann's proposal to join camp ahead of the United States' friendlies against Canada and Iceland.
Instead, Gonzalez has had a change of heart and will join Mexico's U-23 camp as they prepare for the 2016 Olympic games in Rio.
Gonzalez was Mexico's starting goalkeeper at the U-20 World Cup in New Zealand and had gathered plenty of interest from the United States after a string of impressive performances for FC Dallas.
Now, should Gonzalez be in the running for the starting goalkeeper spot, he will have to compete with Xolos de Tijuana's Gibran Lajud for the starting position.
