Belgium beat Mexico 3-2, claim third at FIFA U-17 World Cup

Belgium earned third place at the U-17 World Cup after beating Mexico in a dramatic 3-2 finish at the Estadio Sausalito in Viña del Mar.

Once again, El Tri failed to make the best out of their chances as Belgium obtained their best finish at a U-17 World Cup.

In the 54th minute, Dennis van Vaerenbergh opened the scoring for the Europeans, but the Mexico national team reacted quickly and equalized three minutes later through a Ricardo Marin penalty.

Moments after Belgium went down to ten men, the Belgians counterattacked and went ahead again with a brilliant chip from Dante Vanzeir.

When all hope seemed lost for Mario Arteaga's side, Francisco Venegas appeared alone inside the area and pulled the score leveled.

In added time, Vanzeir cut inside from the right-wing, went past his marker, and beat Abraham Romero to send the ball into the back of the neat and emphatically seal third place for Belgium.
