Pumas UNAM and Toluca edge their way towards Liga MX Semifinals

Pumas UNAM reached the semifinals of the Liga MX playoffs following a 1-0 victory over Veracruz on Sunday.

After a 1-0 defeat at the Estadio Luis Pirata Fuente on Thursday night, the 1-1 aggregate draw put the Universitarios through due to their better positioning in the league table.

Fidel Martinez netted the only goal of the match in the ninth minute as the Universitarios held on for a berth in the final four.

Meanwhile, Fernando Uribe helped Toluca dump Puebla out of the Liga MX playoffs with a 3-2 aggregate win on Sunday.

Puebla showed the most spirit, and could have taken the advantage on several occasions, but against the run of play, Uribe scored the only goal in the 83rd minute to effectively seal the tie for the Diablos Rojos.

Toluca will now take on Tigres for a spot in the Liga MX final, while the other semifinal will be between Club America and Pumas UNAM.

The times and dates of the games will be determined on Monday.
