The regular season of the Liga MX is rapidly coming to a close. Take a look at some of the Apertura's most promising storylines heading into Week 14.
The hunt for the Liguilla is on
If you've spent any time watching Liga MX over the past few years, you'll know that this is when the league really starts to catch fire. Several teams are currently vying for a chance at the Liguilla, and only goal differential separates 8th place Monterrey from 12th place Atlas.
Even teams like Veracruz and Puebla should not feel too good about themselves as it can all come crashing down with a string of negative results.
With four games to go in the regular season, you either live to fight another day or take the long walk home.
The rise of Club America?
Club America currently occupy 3rd with 24 points, but the jury is still out on whether they are genuine title contenders.
Striking the right balance has been tough for new manager Ignacio Ambriz, but it's been enough to provide the team with relative comfort.
If history tells us anything, it's that America are always a team to watch for late in the season. This weekend's match against Queretaro could potentially offer Las Aguilas a chance to clinch a spot in the Liguilla.
With a win on Saturday, maybe more people will buy into the idea that America might be a title contender.
Clasico Tapatio highlights Liga MX week
Essentially the most intriguing match of the weekend is the game between local rivals Chivas Guadalajara and Atlas.
The last game between these two sides didn't end too well after Atlas supporters invaded the pitch in protest. This time around, however, the Rojinegros hope to leave the controversy behind and put an end to Matias Almeyda's good vibes since taking over at Chivas.
Both teams are tied with 17 points and only three points away from 6th place Puebla. A win would keep their Liguilla hopes alive, but a defeat would likely drop the loser into obscurity. This is a must-watch no matter what.
