The Netherlands failed to reach Euro 2016 after a 3-2 defeat to the Czech Republic on Tuesday put an end to their dismal qualifying campaign.
The Dutch came into the game needing a win and a Turkey loss to at least clinch a place in a play-off spot. But goals from Pavel Kaderabek, Josef Sural, and an own goal from Robin Van Persie ensured that the Netherlands missed out on Europe's most prestigious national team competition.
The defeat was a failure of epic proportions for the Dutch, but in Mexico it is all smiles following the Oranje's defeat. While they say time heals all wounds, "No Era Penal" still lives strong in the memory of El Tri fans.
Some have even gone as far as to say this is the start of a new sports-related curse.
Jajajajajajajaja ¡Y éste sí era penal y no se lo marcaron! #Karma #LaMaldiciónDelNoEraPenal https://t.co/UB5IJF0pG1
