Giovani dos Santos joins Villarreal

Gio will join up with fellow Mexican international Javier Aquino and a host of new signings at El Madrigal.

Villarreal don't plan on sticking around the bottom half of La Liga and fighting off relegation next season. The newly promoted side has made a string of ambitious singings this summer, with the latest being Mexican international Giovani dos Santos. He'll join fellow Mexican international Javier Aquino and former Mallorca teammate Tomas Pina at the club.

Gio concluded three disappointing years with Tottenham Hotspur with a very successful loan spell to Racing Santander in the second half of the 2011-12 season. He turned that into a permanent move to Mallorca, where he was one of the club's best players. Unfortunately, he had very little talent around him due to his team's financial constraints, and Mallorca were relegated to the Segunda.

Villarreal should make for an excellent fit for Gio, and a departure from his last two loan spells. While they are a newly promoted club and unlikely to slide into European spots right away, the Yellow Submarine's squad looks too good to end up fighting another relegation battle. Expect Gio to have every opportunity to play regular minutes leading into the World Cup for a comfortably mid-table -- if not better -- La Liga side.

The Yellow Submarine have also signed Bojan Jokic and Aleksandar Pantic in recent weeks. The pair will be presented along with Pina on Wednesday, while dos Santos is expected to be presented sometime next week.
