After weeks of negotiations, it is being reported that Dante Lopez, Paraguayan international striker, has refused to re-sign with UNAM Pumas and will leave the 2011 Clausura champions on a free transfer. The club was negotiating with Lopez up until Thursday, when they broke off talks. Lopez's contract expired on Friday and he is expected to leave and sign for a new club.
Lopez was called up to the Paraguay squad in 2007 after a very impressive season with Libertad. Shortly afterwards, he was sold to Pumas UNAM, where he has played in 116 league games since 2008, scoring 26 goals. Along with Paco Palencia, Martin Bravo and youngster Javier Cortes, he was a key part of the Pumas attack as they won the Clausura last season.
It's not yet known what clubs, if any Lopez has spoken to about signing, but other posts at the above-linked Medio Tiempo link him to a move to a club in Spain.
