Every offseason, eyes are focused on Club America. As one of the two biggest clubs in Mexico, they always attract media attention, but they are the biggest story every offseason due to the small number of changes that Chivas Guadalajara is making to their roster these days. Their defense was abysmal in the 2011 Apertura and the pressure was on them to make changes to that area of the team. Supporters of the Aguilas won't be happy to see that their team did not do this before the domestic transfer deadline.
America could still finalize moves for players currently plying their trade in foreign leagues, but they won't be bringing in any defensive reinforcements from other Mexican clubs. They made a change at goalkeeper and brought in attacking reinforcements, but nothing where they really needed it. No defensive midfield players, no defenders.
There's no doubt that they players they brought in are quality and that they will help the team, but they're not really what the team needed. 'Hobbit' Christian Bermudez is a great acquisition, but what will he do that 'Rolfi' Daniel Montengro does not? Jose Maria Cardenas is merely a like for like replacement for Angel Reyna, and an arguably inferior one at that. Moises Muñoz is probably a slight upgrade over Fernando Navarrete, but how has Navarrete fallen so far in under six months?
Because he was bad in one game -- the Clasico against Chivas -- he was branded as a failure. Many thought America weren't losing anything at all when 'Memo' Guillermo Ochoa left. How wrong they were.
