The time has come!
In less than a half hour, Real Salt Lake and Monterrey will kick off in Salt Lake's Rio Tinto stadium to decide who will lift the CONCACAF Champions League crown and book a place in the Club World Cup. Some bookmakers are considering the MLS side favorites on the back of their 37 game home unbeaten streak in all competitions. Nonetheless, they come up against a very dangerous Monterrey side who have yet to lose a CCL match this campaign.
Both sides are missing some key players, but it is sure to be an intriguing showdown between up-and-coming RSL manager Jason Kreis and veteran Monterrey manager Victor Manuel Vucetich. Monterrey will need a win or a high-scoring draw to claim the trophy, while Real Salt Lake can afford a 0-0 or 1-1 draw. With the away goals rule in effect, only a 2-2 draw would send the game to extra time, and if need be, penalty kicks.
Real Salt Lake lineup (4-4-2): Rimando; Russell, Olave, Borchers, Wingert; Johnson, J. Morales, Grabavoy, Williams; Saborio, Espindola
Monterrey lineup (4-4-2): Orozco; Perez, Basanta, Mier, Osorio; Cardozo, Santana, Ayovi, H. Morales; Martinez, Suazo.
